About Pounamu Oilfield Services
Pounamu Oilfield Services has a history spanning more than four decades, with roots in New Plymouth, New Zealand and a new chapter now beginning in Abu Dhabi.
Austoil began in New Plymouth in the early 1980s as a subsidiary of Australian Austoil Drilling Services, offering a comprehensive range of drilling, tubular management and engineering services. During this period, Austoil also became the New Zealand alliance partner for Weatherford International.
Weatherford International Incorporated acquired Austoil Engineering Services Limited, creating the newly formed Weatherford New Zealand Limited.
Tasman Oil Tools New Zealand acquired the business and renamed it Pounamu Oilfield Services NZ, establishing a new identity that reflected the heritage of the Māori people of Taranaki and New Zealand.
A group of local businessmen acquired the business rights and activities of the New Zealand company, beginning a new chapter focused on Abu Dhabi and supporting regional ambitions for increased production, local capability and dependable oilfield services.

Machine Shop and manufacturing capability
Pounamu Oilfield Services provides specialist machine shop, manufacturing, threading, repair, torque-turn, pressure-testing and equipment-support services for the oil, gas and geothermal industries.
Built around large-capacity CNC lathes up to 21 inch, together with manual lathes, experienced personnel and established oilfield processes, Pounamu Oilfield Services supports critical components from manufacture and threading through to inspection, repair, testing and return to service.
The business combines specialist machinery, practical oilfield knowledge and controlled manufacturing procedures to deliver dependable quality, competitive cost and on-time delivery.

Precision machining and manufacturing
Large-capacity CNC and manual machining for oilfield tubulars, downhole drilling tools, flanged equipment, crossovers, adaptors and specialist engineered components.
Threading and connection services
Manufacture, inspection and repair of API rotary-shouldered connections and API casing and tubing threads, together with premium threading connections approved in New Zealand for VAM, Tenaris, JFE and DNO.
OCTG Bucking Unit and Connection Make-Up
Our facility is equipped with a dedicated Bucking Unit capable of controlled make-up and break-out of tubular connections across a wide range of OCTG sizes. This is complemented by controlled pressure-testing services for casing, completion assemblies and related equipment.

Inspection, recutting, refacing, repair and refurbishment of drill-string, bottom-hole assembly and other critical components.

Pounamu Oilfield Services offers full logistics services from mill to site, including Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI). Our complete supply-chain service provides oilfield customers with a reliable one-stop choice for shipping and handling, storage, machining and delivery to site, providing a cost-effective way to manage tubular products, tooling and consumables.
Working closely with our customers, we monitor the full supply chain from production through agreed inventory levels, usage and replenishment requirements.
